Getting Started
- The first thing you'll need to do is go to the Global Shellz website and click on Create New account on the upper, right hand side below the Login area.
- Once you click on the link, you'll see the following:
Username & Email
- First things we will need from you are your desired Username and your preferred Email Address. We don't spam our users, so don't worry about that:
Freenode Nick
- The next thing want from you is your registered Freenode nick. We ask for this because of several reasons. We like to know that you're interested in a community setting like Freenode. Also we use this for the IRC Channel bots to recognize our users and provide them with Auto-Voice once they have achieved Resident status with our community. For instructions about how to register a Freenode nick see here.
Shell Username & Server
- At this point you request your desired Shell Username and Server. There's a 99.9% chance that your username will be available. If it is not, an admin will contact you about other possible solutions. You can have the same username for both the website and server in most cases. We have two servers currently, with plans to add more when the time comes.
Terms of Service
- Finally, everyone's favorite part. The Terms of Service agreement. I think we all know what to do here.
What Next?
- Once you click submit, you will be redirected back to the Global Shellz main page. An email will be automatically sent to you and the Global Shellz Admins. Your account will be reviewed by an admin and activate as soon as possible. This is also a good time to join #globalshellz on irc.freenode.net and get to know your future fellow members.
Basic Shell Commands
Checking your allotted ports
Type "myports" into the prompt to see the list of available ports that you are allowed to use.
This command will also tell you which ports you are currently using.
If you are caught using ports which do not belong to you, your shell can be locked.
Checking Vhost List
Type "vhosts" into the prompt to get the list of current IPv4 and IPv6 vhosts for use with Global Shellz.
There is also an updated list here.
Vhosts can be used by IRC bouncers, IRC bots, and IRC clients for connection to networks.
Easily Set Up Eggdrop
Type "getegg" into the prompt to easily install an eggdrop bot.
Follow the step by step setup created by Brabo and you will be on your way to having a functioning IRC Bot.
Changing Your Shell Password
After you have logged in, type "passwd" and hit enter. It'll ask you for your current password, and then a new one. Once you enter your new one twice - you're done!
Changing Your Login Shell
After you have logged in, type "chsh" and hit enter. It'll ask you for your new login shell. Note: you have to log out and log in again for this change to take effect.
